Rio Tinto has confirmed it is investigating an incident at a Pilbara mine site after a maintenance worker reportedly ran over his own vehicle with a loaded haul truck.
The incident occurred at the Brockman 4 Mine – 60 kilometres north-west of Tom Price – Thursday afternoon, when the driver of the light vehicle boarded the haul truck to perform repairs.
The iron ore mine site is fully owned and operated by Rio Tinto.
“Rio Tinto confirms it is investigating an incident involving a manned haul truck and a stationary, unattended light vehicle at its Brockman 4 mine on the morning of Nov. 21st,” a spokesman for Rio Tinto told Perth Now.
“The incident occurred after the driver of the light vehicle boarded the haul truck to perform a maintenance task.”
Rio Tinto confirmed no one was injured in the incident.
“Safety is our top priority and the ongoing internal investigation will seek to identify measures to ensure such incidents are avoided in the future.
“The company has also informed the Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety (DMIRS).”
