Two Victorian companies have been charged after a man suffered fatal head injuries in a workplace accident in 2022.
In January of that year, a 70-year-old man was riding on a trailer attached to the back of a tractor in Woorinen South, near Swan Hill when he fell off onto the road and sustained serious head injuries.
It’s understood the tractor was turning when he fell.
The man, who was employed by contractor AH Vision Pty Ltd, died in hospital a day later.
AH Vision, and the company he was contracted to work for at the time, Cutri Fruit Pty Ltd, have both been charged with several offences relating to the man’s death.
WorkSafe alleges Cutri Fruit failed to provide a safe system of work and failed to provide workers with necessary information and training.
It has been hit with five charges under a section of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act for failing to ensure people other than employees were not exposed to health and safety risks.
WorkSafe has also alleged that AH Vision failed to provide its employees with necessary instruction and training.
The Swan Hill company has been charged with two offences under the OHS Act, including failing to provide WorkSafe with required information and documents.
The matter is listed for a filing hearing at Swan Hill Magistrates Court on January 24.
