Visy Board Pty Limited (Visy) has been fined $375,000 in the NSW District Court after an employee sustained crush injuries to his left ankle following a workplace incident where the ruling found the risk of injury was “patently obvious”.

A scrap metal recycler in Tottenham has been fined $40,000 after a contractor’s arm was caught in a machine which had the guarding removed.

Build Tech Hoardings Pty Ltd was sentenced in the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 3 April after pleading guilty to a single charge of failing to ensure persons other than employees were not exposed to health and safety risks.

A Port of Brisbane timber company has been fined tens of thousands of dollars after a “devastating” workplace accident that put an employee in hospital for 40 days.

The incidents include two people suffering serious burns when a worker tried to extinguish a fire with liquid that turned out to be unlabelled methylated spirits, a worker suffering a head wound and concussion after part of a machine fell on his head, and machinery lacerating a worker’s finger.

A steel fabrication business and a director have been fined a total of $92,500 in the Townsville Magistrate court for a workplace incident involving a trailer collapsing while a worker was prepping it in an onsite spray-painting booth.
