WorkSafe is investigating the work-related death of a 59-year-old farmer at a property 20km north of Esperance on Thursday.
“The man was reported to have been performing repairs under a seed bin when the bin fell on him, inflicting fatal crush injuries,” WorkSafe said in a statement on Friday.
WorkSafe WA Commissioner Darren Kavanagh said any work-related death was a tragedy and passed on his sincere condolences to the man’s family and workers at the farm.
Investigators will examine the incident to ensure compliance and try prevent future incidents of a similar nature.
Mr Kavanagh announced earlier this year he would hold an inquiry into the agricultural industry after 12 work-related deaths in 12 months.
The inquiry will aim to establish how to make changes in safety in the industry and a report with recommendations on investigations and enforcement will be presented to the State Government.
