A worker has sustained serious injuries following a horror industrial incident at a major shopping complex.
Emergency services were called to Chadstone Shopping Centre on Friday morning after 9.20am, following reports a worker was injured.
It’s believed a cherry picker was involved in the incident.
“Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) was called to an incident at a construction site at Chadstone Shopping Centre, with initial reports of a person trapped,” a spokesperson said.
“Two crews arrived on scene at 9.26am, to find the person reported trapped had been released and was with Ambulance Victoria for treatment.”
The scene was later declared under control at 9.29am.
Paramedics took the worker – who is believed to have sustained crush injuries – to the Alfred Hospital.
A spokesperson for building and infrastructure company John Holland confirmed the worker was involved in an incident at its Chadstone Shopping Centre project.
“Our number one priority right now is the welfare of the worker involved, who has been transported to hospital for treatment,” they told the Herald Sun.
“We’re working with safety regulators to understand the circumstances of the incident.”
Just after midday, WorkSafe inspectors could be seen taking information from a worker on site, who was gesturing in the motion of something tipping and grabbing at his shoulder.
A WorkSafe spokesperson confirmed it is currently investigating the incident.
“WorkSafe inspectors are in attendance and will determine whether further action is require,” they said.
Chadstone Shopping Centre management were contacted for comment on the matter.
