A man has died after a worksite accident at the IMAX Theatre in Darling Harbour in Sydney.
Emergency services were called to the construction site about 10am, where a 49-year-old man had significant injuries. It is understood the worker suffered a head injury when a pipe exploded. He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he died of his injuries.
The CMFEU has released a scathing statement about conditions on the job site.
“It is appalling that another worker has been killed on a Grocon site.”
Grocon is the development company in charge of construction at The Ribbon, a hotel building which will also house the new IMAX Theatre in Darling Harbour.
“Grocon has a shocking track record of callous disregard for workers’ safety. How many lives must be lost, and people injured before this company wakes up to themselves?
A crime scene has been established and police are conducting inquiries into the circumstances of the incident, NSW Police said.
