A man is in hospital with significant facial injuries after being hit in the face during a workplace accident in Sydney’s north-west.
Ambulance services were called at around 12.15pm to Shirley Street in Carlingford, following reports of a gas explosion at a worksite.
Four crews, including a helicopter, arrived at the scene were a man had been struck by a heavy metal casing while testing a gas main. The 44-year-old man was treated for significant facial injuries before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
“Incidents at worksites can be extremely complex and it shows just how quickly any situation can change,” Inspector Jennine Kiley from NSW Ambulance said. “Bystanders did a great job coming to his aid.”
