The star’s daughter wrote online that it ‘has been the most challenging time for me and our whole family’.
A beloved Australian reality show cast member has died in a workplace accident.
Ronald Selig, 66, who appeared in Outback Opal Hunters, worked as an opal miner in Opalton near Winton.
He was fatally injured falling from the roof of a workshop on November 26, 2022.
In an alert at the time, Resources Safety & Health Queensland said “the incident is still under investigation”.
“It is understood the worker accessed the roof of the workshop to make repairs following damage caused by a severe weather event when a structural member failed, causing the worker to fall approximately 5.8m to ground,” it said.
Outback Opal Hunters shared the news of Selig’s passing on social media earlier this year.
“We are saddened to inform that Ron Selig has passed away,” it said.
“Ron was a much-loved member of the Outback Opal Hunters family. A great character and amazing opal hunter, always chasing that colour.
“We will always fondly remember Ron.”
Selig’s daughter, Mel, replied from her late father’s social media account to thank the show’s cast, crew and fans.
“We thank you all so very much (for) your loving kindness and condolences,” she said.
“The loss of our father, Ron, has been the most challenging time for me and our whole family.
“Ron was the most amazing, sensational son, father, grandfather and friend to all.
“Dad was a kind, caring and a fun-loving man, who always would come out with the funniest jokes! Ron was an easy going guy too!”
Mel said Selig would have been “extremely moved” by the outpouring of condolences for him.
The family will continue to enjoy Outback Opal Hunters episodes he featured in, she said.
“He was definitely one of a kind, we shall dearly miss our dad/grandfather Ron,” she wrote.
