A 29-year-old man has been killed in a workplace accident in Melbourne’s west after he was run over by a truck he was working on.

Emergency Services were called to the Diggers Rd workplace in Werribee South just before 1pm on Monday.

It’s understood the man was doing maintenance work underneath a trainer that was hitched to a prime mover, when he was struck by the vehicle as it was driven away.

He was flown to The Alfred in a critical condition with upper and lower body injuries, according to an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman.

On Tuesday, a Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed the man had since died in hospital.

“WorkSafe have been notified and will be investigating,” she said.

“Police will prepare a report for the coroner.”

The death brings the workplace fatality toll to 30 for 2022, four fewer than at the same time last year.

There were 66 Victorians who lost their lives in 2021.
