A GoFundMe fundraising page has been established to help the family of Bendigo burns victim Scott O’Keefe. Mr O’Keefe suffered burns to more than 50 per cent of his body after an explosion at Omega Metals in Eaglehawk last Thursday.
Friend Ashley Thomas said Mr O’Keefe has a long road to recovery.
“Scott has two young children and one on the way in December, so I thought it would be nice to organise a fundraiser to help his family,” Mr Thomas said.
Mr O’Keefe is in an induced coma at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital and has already had two surgeries, with more to come, according to Mr Thomas. The GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $8,000, with a $20,000 target set.
One hundred and forty six donors have participated, with Eaglehawk business NatRad one of the first to contribute to the cause.
“I’ve also got a couple of tins at Midland Wreckers for people that want to make cash donations,” Mr Thomas said.
WorkSafe is investigating the cause of the explosion.
It is alleged Mr O’Keefe was crushing gas bottles at the Baldock Court business when the explosion occurred.
